1999 GS400 TOM's Lower Chassis Brace Modification

The TOM's lower chassis brace was originally designed for the JDM Toyota Aristo with the 2JZ inline-6 engine. The US version GS400 and GS430 have the V8 engine which sits the bellhousing in a completely different place, further forward.

This causes interference between the brace and bellhousing bolt hole area for torque converter access.

We have seen some very proud internet forum geniuses put washers (a BUNCH) under the rear mounting bolts for the brace to space it down. Of course this will put horrible stress on both front and rear mounting bolt areas, which can possibly crack the brace, since it is now not sitting square to the car and is being tightened down. Not too smart.

These people also probably do not have any clue as to how a brace works or what it should be doing, since it is now only being attached to the car in a small area the size of the washer, is preloaded at a completely destructive angle, and is now flexing and trying to crack.

To resolve this, we carefully cut the crossbrace portion off, shorten it and TIG weld it further up.
